MASTER CLASS
With Susan Dansby
When: Wednesday, January 26 @ 12pm Eastern
Where: Online
Why: A dream job is a terrible thing to miss
As a theater major, I had visions of a future career filled with bringing stories to life.
Then I graduated. The real world hit, and I realized how many people wanted those directing, writing, and producing jobs; how you were expected to work for little-to-no money while building a reputation, and how I couldn't afford to do that.
So I settled, working 40+ hours/week as a legal typist and doing theater on the side—until I discovered I didn't have to wait for success to find me. I could lead it to my front door.
Want to know how you can redirect your career from that regular job to your passion in the entertainment industry? Sign up for my new master class and discover how to create your own personal Action Plan to getting paid to do what you love.
HERE'S HOW THIS CLASS WILL HELP
Learn from someone who's landed over 20 well-paying jobs in the entertainment industry how to get those jobs, and how to bounce back if/when you lose them.
Most dream jobs are filled before you even hear about them. You'll find how to apply for an opening BEFORE it happens.
How to stand out as a writer? Director? Producer? You'll get first-hand tips from someone who's held all those jobs.
On a train, at a party, attending a conference—words that can open career doors.
Challenges come with every job hunt. How to keep yourself going to land that dream job.
The three types of communication that will make you stand out in the crowd.
Discover what your prospective bosses need from those who know them best.
How to impress while being yourself.
When I decided, at 29, to put serious energy into pursuing my directing career, I picked up a copy of What Color Is Your Parachute? The fresh approach it took to getting unpublicized jobs appealed to me, and I had a feeling it just might work.
It did. By following the steps outlined in the book, I had a TV job within nine months of making that decision.
Five years later, I used the Parachute process again when I moved to LA. This time, I got my dream job of being a contract director on GENERATIONS less than four months after getting to town.
There are a lot of talented people who felt forced to put their dreams aside because they couldn’t see a way to get that big break.
Or, they got that first big job, lost it, then couldn’t figure out how to regain their footing. I was almost one of them.
But those two job searches led to 20+ years of work in the entertainment industry. I didn’t see that coming, but I’m glad it did; and I’m grateful for the lessons I’ve earned along the way.
That’s why I designed this master class. To give writers, directors, and others the tools they need to not only break into the entertainment industry but thrive in it.
Will this process work for you? Only you can decide that. But if you want your dream with everything in you, isn’t it worth spending 90 minutes to find out how you can attain it—by directing your career?
